Day 22- Kentucky

Day 22-Kentucky

Today, we woke up at 6:00AM in Illinois to a surplus of all sorts of different bites. The counselors kept threatening us with rain and thunder to speed the packing process up. Playing Thunder by Imagine Dragon and Thunder noises really woke us up. On the bus, everyone fell asleep right away after a long night of close to no sleep. There were a group of us who went down to the lake and met a super cute three-legged dog named Lewie. Others stayed under the shelter writing in their journal and puzzling. Our first stop of the day was at the Indiana welcome center where there were long lines to the restrooms, as usual. There was a super awesome playground that everyone was doing parkour on. Loading back onto the busses and vans, everyone fell asleep once again. In the words of Christian, “we slept from the time we got on the van to the time we got off.” We arrived to the Kentucky Derby where we had our last presentations of the trip. Logan presented on the Gateway Arch and Sam presented on the Kentucky Derby. We had free time to explore the museum before the movie where there were many interactive activities. There were fake horses that many people went on to race each other as well as uniforms that many people used to dress up as jockeys. The movie was an “immersive experience” in Grace’s words. The screen was set up as a racetrack going all the way around and we sat in spinning chairs turning our heads around and getting dizzy. At one point, Sanders fell out of his chair from spinning too fast. He also got yelled at numerous times for trying to sneak out wearing a jockey uniform and moving the statues. When the movie was over, we headed out to our informative tour. Ainsley’s favorite part of the tour was the names of the winning horses lining the buildings. After, we had some more free time to explore the gift shop and get some souvenirs. Willy ate a pizza and a big ole hot dog.

Off to the races

Then we loaded the bus to head to the Blue Beacon Carwash. Sanders and Patrick learned how to do a handstand as we washed the vehicles. We then headed to the original KFC aka Sanders Café. We took pictures in front of the restaurant because unfortunately they were closed due to renovations and we weren’t allowed inside. People bought souvenirs and the cooks got dinner. We then got to a shelter near our campsite and ate dinner. For dinner we had chicken breasts and drums, mashed potatoes, green beans, and macaroni and cheese. We also had sweet tea and lemonade. Patrick’s favorite part of dinner was trying Nashville’s hot chicken. After dinner, we headed to our campsite to compete in our last skit competition. Our skits ranged from reenacting the whole trip to a game show based on the trip. Our favorite one was the counselors, especially when Michael pretended to be Willy. In the words of Willy, "Michael played a better Willy than Willy does Willy." The counselors exposed everyone. We found out that Bashfuls won "Best Cooks." Sneezys were the winners of the competition tonight and the overall winners for the trip! Before getting ready for bed, we practiced our sing along for tomorrow.
