Day 2- New Orleans

Day 2: New Orleans

We woke up this morning, after a sleepless night… with a lot of wildlife encounters. We loaded onto our buses in the dark, awaiting our long car ride. After our first hour in the car we finally made it to Auburn University (the university of bricks). WAR EAGLES! We also made another Walmart stop, with the cooks buying a glorious breakfast of pop tarts and bananas. During the ride we made bracelets, played Uno, and studied French grammar!
Go tigers!

Seth told us all about Auburn. Did you know Jimmy Buffet went here?

New friends!

With our fearless leader, Grant

We love our counselors!

Excited for our next Walmart stop

We bought some 'naners for brekkie!

We stopped at a few rest stops (we barely missed the Backstreet Boys at one rest area)! We also made PB&Js on our legs as we rode. We can do anything while riding now. Our next rest stop was at the Mississippi Welcome Center- we have already been through FIVE states!! We got to hear about Mississippi from some of our researchers. After what felt like an hour-long bridge ride, we finally arrived in New Orleans! THOMAS HAS ENTERED THE CHAT. After a few presentations, we had some time to explore. Some people met a Bourbon Street cowboy :)! We wish we had as much confidence as the people on Bourbon Street! Our time at the Saint Louis Cathedral was absolutely amazing! When the line at Café Du Monde was too long, we moved on to the next best thing! We were able to explore the city and come across many amazing and slightly disturbing things. After a storm rushed us off early, the Happys went to Walmart to prepare our next four meals. Ms. Dana was willing to help the Happys by opening a lane just for them to checkout! She also took a fantastic picture with our cooks! Happys are killing the cook game!

Shoutout to our amazing bus driver, Michael!

Playing card games on the bus!

Trying to see where we are...

Abby told us all about Mississippi!

We petted the sweetest dogs at the rest area.

Nae-naeing in New Orleans.

We made it to the Mississippi river!!

Will taught us about Bourbon Street.

Kack educated us on the Jackson Square behind us!

Lillie also shared her research with us about St. Louis Cathedral.

Haylee did a great job presenting!

Tate told us some Bayou jokes.

Carson presented his research, as well.

Gabe with the cathedral.

We gazed in awe at the beauty of the St. Louis Cathedral.

Walking to Bourbon Street

Carson found his own home.

Don't be fooled...we were holding our breaths in this photo thanks to the lovely scents of New Orleans!

Practicing for our Dixieland Delight competition

The cooks cooked up a fantastic dinner tonight, chicken alfredo with salad and garlic bread. They followed it up with some surprise ICE CREAM sandwiches. (AND were still under budget by $60.) After dinner, we did our last preps for our Dixieland Delight competition and got all of our jitters out for the final show. It was a tough call on who had the best rendition of Dixieland Delight, but the crown was given to the Sneezys. How could anyone else beat backflips?? Many were also excited to hear that the Dopeys won our relay competition yesterday! After our competition we were given our long awaited sportswear! It felt like Christmas in July. With a long day of driving ahead of us, we headed to bed INDOORS awaiting the Alamo tomorrow!!

Au revoir,
