Day 16: Yellowstone
This morning we woke up at the early hour of 5:30am at very chilly Bear Lake Campground. We started our drive to Jackson Hole in Wyoming while eating a delicious breakie of croissants and bananas. After a nice 3 hour drive of extra sleeping, we arrived in Jackson Hole. We all walked to the antler arch to take pictures and let Cate and Mason do their research. As soon as we finished research, we all ran to the first souvenir shop, Shirt Off My Back, which was quickly filled with every single TWBer. After spending between $10 and $150 in the different souvenir shops many went to Starbucks for coffee or just walked around town. Evan Blair and Carson Faulkner ventured down to the base of the mountain to go bouldering, while many TWBers went on a vicious search to find Bison Burgers only to find out that many of the restaurants didn’t open until 11:30 (we had to be back on the bus at 11:55.) For lunch many waited in a long line for pizza while others ate a picnic lunch of PB&Js at the bus. We packed back onto the bus to start our short drive to the Chapel of Transfiguration in the Grand Tetons National Park. At the Chapel we had a special reflection of the trip filled with songs, laughter, hugs, and tears.

Around 2pm, we made our way to Yellowstone National Park. The kids on the bus had a great time playing cards, treating the boys to eyebrow treatments, and the letters TWB shaved into their legs. When we arrived, we saw Old Faithful and many other geysers. Ainsley Grace and Emily R presented their research. After watching the 3 minute eruption, we made our way to various gift shops and snack bars. We continued our trek through Yellowstone, as we made our way to the Painted Mud Pots where we were led on a wonderful tour by our amazing surprise visitor, Dr. Dr. Kimrey. As we traveled through the mud pots, we were greeted with the amazing smell of rotten eggs and we were also able to see lots of small geysers and mud pots. Grace R. and Gabe presented their research at the Painted Mud Pots. We hopped back on the bus and vans to start a short 15 minute drive to “The Little Grand Canyon” where we were blessed with the view of one of the most beautiful waterfalls. While driving through the valleys, we were able to see many bison, elks, and tourists, which we were told to call them touristas. Kids on the Carolina Girl van had a wholesome moment with Dallas, while driving though the sunset. We will arrive to our campsite in Cody, Wyoming late tonight where we will sleep outside under the stars.
