Day 12-San Francisco

Day 12: San Francisco

We started off our day at a bright 6:15 to pack up and go explore San Francisco. Grant was being nice for once and took all of our laundry down to the Laundromat in Chinatown. We had a traveling breakfast of Danishes and apples while on the way to the Cliff House, passing the Painted Ladies of Full House fame on the way. The Cliff House unfortunately was closed but we got to explore a cave and secluded beach right next to it. None of us were ready for how chilly those San Francisco winds can be during mid-July, but we fought through. After the Cliff house, we traveled down to Fisherman’s Warf where we took pictures, saw Alcatraz in the distance, and even smelled some pretty stinky fish. After we took group and team pictures, we were allowed to shop around, eat clam chowder and In-n-Out burgers, and climb up lovely Lombard Street. Unfortunately the iconic trolleys were all closed for some kind of testing, so we had to resort to foot travel, bus rides, and maybe even one or two boat rides. While shopping around, Kack had the privilege of going full Karen on a store worker because of a hoodie mix-up, and then proceeded to shed a few tears about it. Tucker too shed a few tears while trying the second spiciest hot sauce in a store while Sofia and Grayson handled the heat like champs.

Everyone made their way towards San Francisco’s famous Chinatown district before 4pm. We shopped the discounts, put on jade rings, and saw full chickens hanging from the windows of Asian markets. Dinner tonight was at the delicious Far East Café in Chinatown. Thanks to the kindness of our amazing staff! We were fed tea, spring rolls (some of the best I’ve ever had), beef and broccoli, sweet and sour chicken, fried rice, and lo mein. On the walk back to the bus, many stopped at the Baked Bear to enjoy a dessert of ice cream and/or gourmet ice cream sandwiches.

Before coming back home to the Methodist church, we detoured to the Golden Gate Bridge. It’s as big and pretty as you’d imagine it being. Together, hand-in-hand for 23 steps, we spanned the bridge on foot, one end to the other. It was very windy and a little cold, but the journey to friendship is sometimes as difficult as it is fun and scenic. After taking a few thousand photos, we hit the road back home and called it a night. Our new cooks went to Safeway to get our next two meals while the rest of us completed our jobs and took showers. See you tomorrow, readers. Sleepy’s out.

******A note for tomorrow: Hi parents/friends/blog readers! Tomorrow morning we will wake up in Yosemite where there is no cell or internet service. I will get the blog posted tomorrow as soon as I can, but it may be midday before I can get enough connection. Thanks for following us across America!
