Day 8-Santa Monica, CA

Day 8: Santa Monica

At about 6 am we arrived at Santa Monica after sleeping on the bus. Trinity’s first initial thought was "how did I go from a big bustling city to a calm beach?" Faith was a huge fan of the large palm trees. We got to dip our toes in the pacific, which shocked people because of the cold. The water really woke us up. We were served a delicious breakfast of breakfast burritos and hash browns with a tad bit of sand.  After breakfast we had free time to explore, some people went to the beach to play mermaids and others explored the pier and shops. Many beach naps were had in the process. Trinity and Cate went to ride the roller coaster while Emily and friends rode the Ferris wheel.  Others played volleyball, spike ball, and some tried body surfing. Gabe wanted everyone to know he succeeded in body surfing.

The water was much colder than it looks

Seth was a sleeping bag for his group's skit

Ethan showed off his moves for our competition

For lunch, we feasted on ham sandwiches on hoagie rolls with pretzels and Oreos.  After lunch was the skit competition and the sleepy group came out on top.  The sleepys did a rendition of "Young, Dumb, and Broke." The other songs ranged from "Party in the USA" to "Drivers License." We had a little more free time before we left after the competition. A lot of people got ice-cream to celebrate national ice-cream day. Cate bought a funnel cake and Carson watched a show on the pier. T-shirts, necklaces, postcards and a few bucket hats were bought. We loaded up and headed to the campsite in Anaheim California. When we arrived we set up camp and were surprised by sprinklers. Faith came back from her walk and found her things soaked. As our items dry we had games of poker, basketball and some boys had a group shower. The boys call this their “bonding experience”.  Tonight the cooks are preparing mac and cheese and hot dogs. After dinner, we are going to have a TWB screaming competition for our celebrity sighting tomorrow. We also had a hot dog eating competition with Lexie P. coming out on on top with 5 hot dogs eaten. The campers are very excited for Hollywood and the baseball game tomorrow!

Tip of the day: Put on sunscreen! –Sleepy group out
